Upon returning to London from the Crusades, the historical Order of Knights of Saint Thomas, having previously adhered to the military regulations of the Teutonic Knights, adopted the Rule of Saint Augustine. This rule, drafted by Augustine of Hippo around 400 AD, is one of the earliest and most enduring guidelines for monastic life in the Western Church. It focuses on living in community with an emphasis on chastity, poverty, obedience, and fraternal charity. Today, in continuing the tradition of the historical Hospitallers of Saint Thomas of Canterbury at Acre, we seek to adapt these ancient principles to modern society while preserving their essence. The Rule of Saint Augustine’s core elements, such as prayer in common, work together on common projects, and care for those in need - are still central to our way of life.In our contemporary context, we remain committed to regular communal prayer, which fosters spiritual unity and supports personal growth. Volunteering in communities is organized to not only fulfil practical needs, but also to enhance our collective mission of service and charity. Our dedication to aiding those in need reflects the Rule’s call for compassionate care and fraternal support. By integrating the spirit of the Rule of Saint Augustine with modern practices, we honour our historical legacy while addressing the needs and opportunities of today’s world. This balance ensures that the timeless values of prayer, work, and charity continue to guide our community in meaningful ways.

Regardless of the approach, the shared joy of witnessing the positive impact on the lives of others stands as a fundamental reason for our members' deep sense of fulfillment and commitment. It is important to note that every penny contributed by our members for charitable purposes goes directly to the designated charities. The annual membership fee paid by our devoted members are utilized to cover the minimal operating costs of our organization and to provide additional financial support to the chosen charities. Additionally, we organize a variety of fundraising events and campaigns.
